Can I install NCapture without installing NVivo?

You can install NCapture on any Windows computer that has Internet Explorer 8 (or later) installed—you do not need to have NVivo installed on the computer, in order to use NCapture.

For example, you might ask a research assistant (who does not have NVivo) to install NCapture and gather Tweets with a particular hashtag and send the NCapture files (.nvcx) to you. You can then import the Twitter data into your NVivo project.

Keeping your NCapture software up-to-date

NCapture automatically checks for software updates and notifies you when an update is available.

NCapture is updated regularly to keep pace with changes to web browsers and social media web sites, so it is important to keep your NCapture software up-to-date. For example, your NCapture browser extension may need to be updated, if your web browser is updated or there is a change to the Twitter website.

We recommend that you update your NCapture software as soon as an update is available.

If an update to NCapture is available, then the next time you use NCapture, you will be prompted to download the new version.

  1. In the NCapture update dialog box, you can view the release notes for the new version.

  2. Click Download to download and install the latest version.

NOTE

  • If you click Skip this Update, your software will not be updated. You will not be prompted again until the next version of NCapture is available.

  • If you click Later, your software will not be updated at this time, but you will be reminded again later to update.
